The first week with on the flotilla was good. We were the only English boat among a flotilla of 7 Dutch boats. Everyone friendly and helpful. Only criticism of the Bavaria 39 was the throttle which was impossible to tell whether or not you were in gear or in neutral. I heard someone else on a different Bavaria 39 experience exactly the same thing.
Bareboating in the second week; the Lagoon 440 was a nice boat but I suspect a little worse for wear after lots of charters. The sail was not in good condition, the shrouding was ripped, which we pointed out to them before we set off. On our third day the lazy jacks snapped making it extremely difficult to bring in the sail in windy conditions. We radioed this in but they were unable to get the sailmaker to us. We’d have to return to Lefkas and it would be a day out of our sailing so we used only the genoa for the final 3 days. Other things went wrong such as the electric winch stopped working, and there was an alarm that sounded on the first day so we had to change our course and meet their engineer at Frikes. He was unable to detect the source or the reason but cut out one of the fuses to kill the noise. He explained the boat’s electrics were very complex and would need an electrical engineer to look at it. However, none of this detracted from a very enjoyable week on the boat. A catamaran has a definite comfort advantage over monohulls when there are 7 people. I definitely wish to book another 2 weeks on a cat next year. Let me know what’s available.
